    • Setting up a Custom Domain

If you want to add a custom domain to that your LightRocket website shows up under your own domain here’s what to do (note that LightRocket does NOT host your domain):

      1. Got to the service that hosts your domain – this is the company from which you purchased your name, like godaddy, or cheap-registrar or what ever it may be (there are lots and lots of them).

Here’s just one example from cheap-registrar (note that your interface will probably look different but you need to find the DNS manager):

      2. Navigate to the DNS management panel which is where you’ll be able to manage the parameters of your domain.

      3. Next you need to add a new CNAME record. Click 'Add' to a new record and select CNAME from the options - as shown below (although the interface from your provider may differ)

      4. Once you’ve created a new CNAME record you need to add an alias or host which should be something like www (as shown in the screenshot below)

       5. And lastly you need to point that hos at LightRocket. In the point to field enter mysite.lightrocket.com (as shown in the screenshot below)

    • Can I Downgrade my Paying Subscription to a Free Account

The LightRocket platform does not allow users to move from a paying subscription to our free Launchpad plan.

You would need to allow your current subscription to expire and then sign up again for one of our free Launchpad accounts. Alternatively you could open a new free account under a new user name.

Feel free to contact us at info@lightrocket.com if you have any questions.

    • Can visitors download pictures for free from LightRocket?

Definitely not. We are keen to protect your intellectual property. Potential buyers can contact you if they'd like to purchase one of your files.

Thumbnails are right click protected and preview files (including video previews) are watermarked by default.

You can even apply watermarks to your slideshows if required - just check the box at the bottom of the Watermarks page which you can access from the drop down menu under your avatar or from your dashboard. See screenshot below.

The LightRocket system gives you full control over who may see and/or download your files. We hope you’ll find LightRocket to be a useful and secure way of promoting and selling your work online.

PLEASE NOTE: Don’t get confused if you login and look at your files on the front end of your website or the front end of LightRocket – you will see the download icon under the thumbnails of your files – because they are your files and you should be able to download them! Try logging out and you will see the icons disappear – your files are secure.

    • Are my files safe on LightRocket?

We believe they are as safe as they can be, yes! We store your archive using Amazon S3, considered the gold standard for cloud storage. Amazon boasts its S3 service has been designed to “Store data with up to 99.999999999% durability, with 99.99% availability” Other major companies trusting Amazon to store data include WeTransfer, the Nasdaq, Pinterest and Netflix.

    • Who can download my pictures?

Your pictures, or indeed any file you publish on the LightRocket system, can only be downloaded by those to whom you grant permission. You can grant download permission to users you have added to your contact database and who are registered on the LightRocket system. Alternatively you can use LightRocket’s share function to grant download access to any contact for whom you have a valid email – without the recipient needing to register on LightRocket.

You will get a record of any downloads made by contacts to whom you have given permission to download. You can review your downloads on the 'Download Activity' page which can be accessed when logged in under the 'My Account' option in the main menu.

PLEASE NOTE: Don’t get confused if you login and look at your files on the front end of your website or the front end of LightRocket – you will see the download icon under the thumbnails of your files – because they are your files and you should be able to download them! Try logging out and you will see the icons disappear – your files are secure.

    • How do I know who downloaded my files?

When logged in as a contributor member of LightRocket, you can browse to the ‘Download Activity’ area under the ‘My Account’ menu option. On your ‘Download Activity’ page you will see a record of the downloads of your files. You can see who downloaded your files, when the download was made and you can record usage details by selecting from a matrix of options, or simply mark the downloaded file as ‘not used’.
